Collaborative Pre-K Program

The Collaborative Pre-K program is offered in partnership with Monongalia County Schools, providing high-quality early education that prepares children for the transition to kindergarten.

Program details

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Calendar: We follow the WVU semester calendar, including all university holidays and breaks.
  • Standards: Our curriculum aligns with West Virginia Early Learning Standards and WV Pre-K Standards.
  • Staffing: Classes are led by certified teachers, supported by WVU student interns and work-study assistants.

Learning Approach

We emphasize hands-on, purposeful play and real-world learning. Key features include:

  • Activity Centers: Classrooms are designed with centers that allow children to move freely, promoting choice, independence, and critical thinking.
  • Child-Directed Exploration: Half of the school day is child-directed, allowing students to lead their own discovery and problem-solving.
  • Teacher-Guided Instruction: Rotating centers provide structured activities in literacy, math, science, art, and more.
  • Innovative Projects: We incorporate unique, research-based projects that celebrate each child’s individual creativity and curiosity.
